There isn’t much to get excited about these days. All Horror games are too action orientated and don’t require any real thinking like Siren, Project Zero and Silent Hill do.
I did a post about next gen consoles and how they’re ruining the genre. I still believe that now
Japanese Magazine Kotaru got hold of this “Trailer” for Bioshock 6 (Bioshock is the Japanese name for Resident Evil if you weren’t too sure about that).
Capcom haven’t said it’s legitimate, neither have they denied it. Doesn’t tell you much except they’ve used music that sounds like something right out of Silent Hill.
Konami had their pre-E3 conference last week and there’s lots of SH things to keep us occupied over the next year.
Silent Hill: Downpour has been delayed to the Winter rather than the Autumn.
Silent Hill Revelations 3D starring Sean Bean, Kit Harrington and Radha Mitchell is to be released in 2011/12. The film is based around the events of Silent Hill 3.
Silent Hill 2 & 3 are being relaunched in HD and will be released as a collection.
And finally… Silent Hill: Book of Lost Memories is the title of the upcoming game for the Playstation NGP the next generation of the PSP.
The eighth installment of the Silent Hill franchise is going to be… Silent Hill: Downpour
Last week Konami stopped the silence and dished out more details about the up and coming Silent Hill game developed by Vatra Games.
They definitely gave us plenty to mull over whilst we wait for the game to be released. Here are what we now know:
- Location and it’s big:
It takes place in South East Silent Hill. A place we haven’t been to before and it will be huge. So huge in fact that there will be a subway available to help us get around.
This could go either two ways. Either the subways will provide a creepy atmosphere and provide puzzles and the likes or it will be boring. I hope they make something out of this new feature. - Side Quests:
Several side quests will be available in Downpour. This will make the game much longer in game play than the previous titles. The side quests will be optional though so it’s up to the player what to do.
- Water:
Hence the name Downpour, water will provide the transition from Reality to Hell. Why? I’m sure the reason will be explained as the player moves through the game.
- Player Analysis:
Silent Hill Downpour will copy Shattered Memories in the fact that it will analyze you as the game goes on. The side quests and their content might play a part in this.
- Monster Battles:
Another thing Vatra are taking from Climax is that you can run from Monsters. However, you can also fight them if the player so chooses. Boss Battles will always have to be battled though.
- Weapons and Inventory:
The biggest negative for me is this. Vatra have taken some inspiration from Origins in the fact that weapons are breakable. Even worse is that there will be ZERO inventory. You cannot hold items. People HATED Silent Hill 4 for it’s limited inventory so will no inventory at all please the fans? Doubtful
Here is an interesting video with a small interview with the developers and some new game footage. It’s looking amazing:
So what do we think so far? It looks like a good game to me. I think Vatra games are trying very hard to get Silent Hill back in the game.
A new Project Zero game announced for…. Wait for it… The NINTENDO blooming WII.
So what do you do when the US/European markets have no interest in distributing your biggest selling Survival Horror for a shitty console? Well, if you’re Tecmo, you release the next part of your franchise for that shitty console again.
Project Zero IV (or Fatal Frame IV if you’re from the US) was only distributed by Nintendo Japan. The US and European Markets weren’t interested so unless you downloaded the fan patch and illegally got your console chipped to play foreign games, you couldn’t play it.
Tecmo haven’t given up on the franchise but they’ve done the silly thing of making the next part (possibly a Crimson Butterfly remake) for the Wii, AGAIN. Will America/Europe see this one? Who knows but I very much doubt it.
Maybe Nintendo stuffed some dollar bills under Tecmo’s nose or Tecmo are being ridiculously stupid. Either way I’m not too pleased.

Another Horror game to slip through our fingers. Japan do realise it’s a console aimed at kids right?
…. and his name Murphy Pendleton and that’s all we know. That and he’s a prisoner but we knew that from E3 didn’t we?
All we need now is some High Res screen shots and character art to get a better picture of what the game will eventually look like.

Well, I call it Silent Hill 6 because Shattered Memories was a remake and Origins was, well, Origins was crap really and very unforgettable.
So I was on twitter, minding my own business when Konami tweeted the following tweets:
@Konami: #Konami #E3 Silent Hill Fans… finally the producer and developers are releasing their new trailer! Coming to Xbox360 and PS3 in 2011
@konami: #Konami #E3 The Silent Hill trailer is bringing a chill into the room. Trailer appears to be meeting it’s creepy expectations. Thoughts?
Needless to say I couldn’t control myself. So f***ing exciting because Silent Hill was NOT listed down as one of the games Konami were taking to E3!
The trailer for the game can be found here on the Konami Website. The Presentation is on a loop so you might have to watch a bit of it until Silent Hill shows up.
If you just want to see the trailer and none of the talk then here it is below:
I know Silent Hill has been getting a lot of stick since Silent Hill 4 was released in 2004 but I’ve always enjoyed the Silent Hill series. Origins wasn’t the best game but Homecoming and Shattered Memories were brilliant games.
This one looks good too though doesn’t it? After San Fransisco, there was talk about the game being a remake of Silent Hill 2 but this is definitely a new story. It has a Silent Hill 4 feel to me which is a good thing because I Loved Silent Hill 4.
I would have liked a female character rather than a male one because it’s been a long while since Heather Mason graced the series. The trailer doesn’t show much personality from the main protagonist but I suppose a trailer wouldn’t do that.
The trailer shows three other characters… A female Police Officer, a Postman and a wierd looking fella. Also, for a quick moment a man shows up on the TV for a short moment who might have some significance in the game too.
Czech developer, Vatra Games are behind this title and thank god they brought back the fire of the other world. Shattered Memories was great but the Ice was wierd - not scary at all really.
They seem to be doing a good job and I can’t wait to hear more. It will be out in 2011 for PS3 and XBox 360.

I’m not sure at the moment… Compared to Kinnect, It’s really cheap isn’t it.
The list of games that have been mentioned for it so far look good. It might make Dead Space look more interesting to me because it’s not a game I’m anticipating at all. Heavy Rain Move looks interesting though as does Singstar Dance.

Konami showed a trailer that experts have accepted to be a new Silent Hill game during a conference of theirs in San Francisco a couple of months back.
The short trailer was light on specifics: a blonde man sits on the edge of a bed holding his head in his hands. The world around him morphs into a dark, deserted road in front of a dilapidated gate. The man hears a sound, turns, sees nothing, then gets attacked by something from the darkness when he turns back.

A game title was never given but the characters supposed resemblance to Silent Hill 2’s James Sunderland led people to believe a new game was entering the Silent Hill series. Another remake like Shattered Memories maybe.
The words “End the Silence” along with an E3 mention showed at the end of the trailer leading us to believe we’ll learn more at E3 in 2010. However when we look at the games Konami are bringing to the E3 conference, Silent Hill is not mentioned.
I guess it won’t be mentioned at E3 at all and it may be a while till we hear more.
